What's going on at ACC?

Resentment is understandable when we’ve been hurt, but it is also deadly—emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Through David’s encounters with Shimei, we learn the courage to forgive instead of striking back, the grace to release bitterness, and the reminder that forgiveness is not a one-time event but a continual process. Jesus calls us to forgive as we’ve been forgiven, letting go of poison and walking in freedom.

David was a mighty warrior, but he also had a tender heart. In 2 Samuel 9, he seeks out Mephibosheth—the crippled son of Jonathan—to keep a promise and show kindness. Instead of ignoring someone society overlooked, David welcomed him to the king’s table. This powerful turning point shows us how compassion means more than words—it is action, mercy, and grace, pointing us to the greater love of Christ.

Bathsheba was pregnant. Uriah was dead. And David, the king, was responsible. But the turning point wasn’t in the sin itself—it came when God, in His mercy, sent Nathan to confront David. Sometimes we must lovingly confront others. Sometimes we must humbly accept correction. Jesus was the perfect leader with perfect motives. His leadership motive was to make a positive difference. But His friends didn’t always have the same motive; they didn’t always have the same head as Jesus. In Mark 10, two of Jesus’ closest friends, James and John, ask Jesus for important positions in His coming Kingdom. We can learn much about how a leader should think from Jesus’ response.

Jesus' heart shows us true leadership: compassion first, selflessness always. A giant heart is the first step to living like Him.
