4H Series – Living Like Jesus: Jesus’ Habits
🗓 Sermon Date: May 18, 2025
🎙 Pastor Jamie Allen – Ashland Church of Christ
This morning’s message focused on the example Jesus left us—not just in His heart, His head, or His hands, but in the everyday habits that shaped His life. As 1 Peter 2:21 says, “Jesus is your example.” If we want to live like Him, we need to build habits like His.
🔹 1. The Habit of Worship
Jesus regularly gathered with others in the synagogue. Worship wasn’t a once-in-a-while event for Him—it was a rhythm. Luke 4:16 says He went to the synagogue “as usual.” Worship is where Jesus taught, healed, and ministered to others. It’s a foundational habit for every believer.
🔹 2. The Habit of Scripture
Jesus didn’t just read the Bible—He lived it. He quoted it, taught it, and corrected misunderstandings about it. He even began His public ministry by reading from Isaiah in the synagogue (Luke 4). If Jesus prioritized Scripture, so should we. As 2 Timothy 3 reminds us, Scripture equips us for every good work.
🔹 3. The Habit of Real Relationships
Jesus didn’t walk alone. He chose 12 disciples to share life with. He modeled how authentic relationships sharpen, encourage, restore, and hold us accountable (Proverbs 27:17, James 5:16, Hebrews 3:13). We were never meant to follow Jesus in isolation.
🔹 4. The Habit of Prayer
Jesus often withdrew to pray. He prayed in solitude, in sorrow, in strength, and even for His enemies. He pleaded for Peter’s faith and submitted His will to the Father in Gethsemane. If the Son of God needed constant prayer, we certainly do too (Matthew 7:7, Luke 5:16).
🔹 5. The Habit of Grace
Jesus practiced grace—even from the cross. He forgave, released burdens, and destroyed the record of our sins (Colossians 2:14). His habits weren’t just disciplines—they were gifts of love that changed the world.
💬 Challenge for the Week:
Which of Jesus’ habits do you need to grow in right now—worship, Scripture, relationships, prayer, or grace? Start small, be consistent, and ask God to shape you more into His image each day.

Jesus had the habit of REGULAR WORSHIP Parents often say, "You can't miss school or sports but church is optional" or "I don't want to force my kids to go to church or they will hate it as an adult" However, if you have regular worship, it eliminates the discussion or IF or DO YOU WANT to go to church today.

Jesus had the habit of REAL RELATIONSHIPS
Real relationships HELP US GROW
Real relationships ENCOURAGE US
Real relationships GIVE US ACCOUNTABILITY
Jesus had the habit of DAILY PRAYER
Jesus had the habit of REGULAR REST
When you leave work at the end of the day, say, "I did the best I can do today." Then spend time with your family.
Our habits of seeking and spending time with Jesus should be so frequent during the light that we can trust Him in the dark.
