OVERVIEW

Mission and Mystery

Message by Pastor Collin Brennan

Colossians 1:24–2:5

Pastor Collin reminds us that the mission of the church is not complicated—but it is costly: we are called to live, serve, and stand firm in Christ.

In this passage, Paul gives us a clear picture of what ministry looks like. Even in suffering, he rejoices—not because hardship is easy, but because God is using it for a greater purpose. His focus is not on his circumstances, but on the gospel moving forward.

Paul reminds us that while Christ’s work on the cross is finished, the mission of sharing that truth continues through us. We are His body, called to serve, to love, and to make His Word known.

At the center of this message is a powerful truth:

Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Our hope is not found in ourselves, but in Christ living within us. Because of Him, we have assurance, purpose, and the promise of eternal life.

Paul also challenges us to grow into maturity. A healthy church is not just growing in numbers, but growing deeper in faith—becoming rooted, stable, and grounded in truth. This kind of maturity comes through both encouragement and correction, as we are shaped more and more into the image of Christ.

But this life is not lived in our own strength. Paul makes it clear that while we are called to labor and remain faithful, it is God’s power working within us that sustains us.

Finally, Paul warns us to stay grounded. Not every idea that sounds right is true. In a world full of persuasive voices, we must remain rooted in Christ, where all wisdom and truth are found.

The challenge for us this week is clear:

Are we actively living out the mission Christ has given us?

Are we relying on His strength—or our own?

Let’s be a people who stay rooted in Christ, stand firm in truth, and walk faithfully in the mission He has called us to.

“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” — Colossians 1:27
