Overview

Scripture: James 3:13–4:10; 2 Timothy 2:22–26

We’ve all been there — a conversation that starts lighthearted but somehow turns tense. A small disagreement grows into a full-blown argument, and before we know it, peace is out the window. Why does that happen?

In “Wisdom That Walks,” Collin Brennan continues our series in the book of James, exploring the heart behind conflict and the source of true wisdom. James challenges us to look beyond surface disagreements and examine what’s really driving our words and actions. Is it jealousy? Pride? Selfish ambition? Or is it a humble spirit rooted in God’s wisdom?

James contrasts worldly wisdom—driven by envy and self-interest—with wisdom from above: pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy, impartial, and sincere. When we live by this heavenly wisdom, we sow peace instead of strife and harvest righteousness instead of regret.

As Collin reminds us, humility is the gateway to wisdom. When we submit ourselves to God—resisting the pull of the world and drawing near to Him—He transforms our hearts. True wisdom doesn’t just speak; it walks. It shows up in quiet strength, gentle words, and humble obedience.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Which kind of wisdom guides your decisions—worldly or godly?

  2. How can you show humility in your conversations this week?

  3. What steps can you take to “draw near to God” in daily life?

Key Verse:

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”— James 3:17 (ESV)

Patient and Prayerful (James 5) | Collin Brennan

Patience and prayer—two words that sound simple, but test every believer. In the closing chapter of James, we’re reminded that faith isn’t just about perseverance in trials, but how we wait and who we turn to during that waiting.

In “Patient and Prayerful,” Collin Brennan walks us through James 5, where we’re called to stand firm like the farmer waiting for rain, to hold our tongues, and to rely on prayer when life presses in. James paints a picture of maturity that trusts God’s timing and power, not our own control.

When we pray, we’re not just speaking words—we’re aligning our hearts with heaven. Whether you’re waiting for healing, provision, or breakthrough, God’s Word calls you to patience, endurance, and faithful prayer.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where in your life are you struggling to be patient right now?

  2. What would it look like to bring that situation to God in prayer daily?

  3. How can you strengthen your faith by praying for others this week?

Key Verse:

“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” — James 5:16 (ESV)

🛒 Help Fill the Shelves — November Food Pantry Drive

Church family, this November we have an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a very real way. Because of the government shutdown, many families in our community are struggling — federal employees are without pay, and SNAP benefits have been temporarily suspended. For some, that means empty cupboards and empty plates.

The food pantry is stepping up to help, but we need your help to meet the increased demand. Please consider giving a little extra this month — canned goods, boxed meals, toiletries, or financial gifts. Every item you bring is a reminder to someone that God sees them, loves them, and provides through His people.

“If you help the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness…” — Isaiah 58:10

Let’s overflow the pantry shelves and bring hope to those who need it most. ❤️ Together, we can make sure no family goes hungry this month.
